— Robert Frost
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Mairi, and I am a counsellor providing both short- and long-term therapy to individuals. I work from home in Kirkcaldy where I can see you in person, but I work with clients from across the UK online.
I am a counsellor with 12 years of experience, specialising in trauma and abuse. As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), my approach is compassionate and trauma-informed, aiming to help clients understand and manage the impact of their experiences on both their minds and bodies.
Based in Kirkcaldy, I am committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for healing. We heal when we feel safe in relationship, connected to our bodies, our breath, the present moment, and one another. Only when we experience connection to ourselves and others, can we open up to our vulnerability and emotions, and discover and express what is true for us. This expression is what heals us.
I believe that the relationship is the core to effective therapy. It can take time to develop a relationship, but I encourage clients to trust their instincts. If we pay attention to what's happening inside us we can tell if something feels right.
I have been a supervisor since 2018 and work with both Counsellors and Support Workers, my background in the Voluntary sector means I have been able to support workers who may have minimal or no Counselling training.
I have been facilitating training for a number of years now, training was part of my remit at the Rape Crisis Centre and I developed and ran sessions internally for staff and volunteers and externally to partner agencies and organisations within the community, police, social work, and 3rd sector staff.
People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported:
I work face-to-face in Kirkcaldy and online. If it is your only option, I can also provide sessions via telephone.
I offer a free 15 minute introductory call where we can talk briefly about what you would like to bring and gain from counselling, at that point you can book a first session or take time to think about it, no pressure.
I am available Monday to Friday, with flexible hours between 9-5. I also have a few evening sessions each week and can occasionally offer one off sessions at weekends.
Sessions usually last 55 minutes and take place weekly, but I am happy to work with whatever suits your needs.
I have some clients who come every two weeks, and some who having had weekly sessions for a time, choose to just contact me when they feel need to have a few more and are happy to work flexibly with my availability.
Some clients choose to have the same slot at a set time on a specific day and other like more flexibility to fit with other commitments and again we just compare diaries and see what works.
My fee is £50 but occasionally have a couple of spaces in which I can negotiate a lower fee. Please feel free to ask if you feel you may struggle.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you, and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07949396451 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential.
Please note: If you decide to send an enquiry and have a Gmail account, please add a phone number if you can, often replies are sent to Junk and I try to send a text just to confirm I have replied, or please check your Junk.
