I have been facilitating training for a number of years now, training was part of my remit at the Rape Crisis Centre and I developed and ran sessions internally for staff and volunteers and externally to partner agencies and organisations within the community, police, social work, and 3rd sector staff.
Since leaving I have regularly developed and run bespoke training events and workshops, some to Rape Crisis centres across Scotland but also to Counsellors in Agencies and to Psychologists in the NHS.
Themes are generally Trauma and Abuse related. Here are a few examples:
Trauma (these are developed to meet the specific needs of the trainees):
“Thank you for delivering such an informative session.. it was so beneficial for me, particularly as I'm a student and have only just began placement. I found the information and yourself extremely engaging. I enjoyed hearing your first hand experiences, your transparency and especially the example you gave towards the end which featured dialogue between a therapist and a counsellor. I honestly could have sat and listened for many more hours.”
“This training will be very useful in working on the helpline and supporting survivors of ritual abuse and any other kind of sexual violence. It really shifted my understanding of ritual abuse, from being something quite different to other forms of sexual violence, to seeing the ritual aspect of it as a cover for sexual/physical/emotional abuse.
“Very easy to understand and Mairi’s genuine empathy and compassion meant the training was delivered passionately and felt very much from the heart, rather than other training courses where the trainer has mostly read from the slide without emotion”
